It appears the problems at University of Zambia (UNZA) may not be far off from UNZA itself. According to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), UNZA is probably the worst managed public institution in Zambia. All those brains appear geared only to one thing - financial malpractice :
The Auditor-General’s findings indicate that between 1998 and 2006, the university failed to produce annual reports, failed to control revenue collections, displayed weaknesses in receipting of student fees, and irregularly awarded salary increases to principal officers. Other queries captured in the report include irregular payment of leave commutation, missing payment vouchers, misappropriation of funds, missing claim forms and pay slips and overpayment of salary arrears. Also highlighted are irregular payments of pension, failure to follow tender procedures, irregular sale of houses and irregular lease of the main dining hall, among others.
