Quick notes

Connecting the middle of nowhere : An great piece from the UK Independent on the work of Computer Aid and Link Net in the village of Macha. Its a shame it takes Computer Aid to do this and not a single similar project by the Zambian diaspora. More on Link Net's work here and here.

Bringing phones to countryside : Kevin Kachingwe on the concentration of mobile phones in urban areas and what Government / NGOs are now trying to extend these services to rural areas.

2009 Review - Media Regulation Debate : A review of the current state of media debate. Its not the sort of thing you expect to find in the Government marshalled papers. Is the house falling down

Developing countries boost their R&D efforts : The UNESCO Institute for Statistics is reporting that the number or researchers in developing countries has increased by 45 percent from 2002-2007.

The Kindle era : An interesting piece on how Kindle may be forever changing the way we read books. I think there are opportunities here for developing countries in terms of reducing the costs of publications and more efficient access of important works.
