The begging bowl...

"We can't wait any more, we can't wait for the child week, health week, we can't wait for anything because we have very, very high cases and a lot of deaths; so we can't wait. The only thing that is standing in our way as usual is the resources. We managed to raise the resources for the child health week. This is going to be an extra activities....We don't have the resources immediately for it. So we would want to appeal to any partner or donors to help us with the resources so that we carry out this extra activity. I want to appeal here that if we don't take immediate measures like today we are likely to lose a lot of lives."
Health Minister Simbao sends SOS to donors over measles outbreak barely a week after his boss opened a new front with donors. Is there anything we do in Zambia without donor help?

  1. I'm just going to wave the white flag on this one, with what little dignity I have left. When will this week of embarassing contradictions end?

  2. There must be another way surely? More Zambians, particular Zambian leaders, need to read Dambisa Moyo's book Dead Aid.

  3. Just another embassassment. At the same time his boss is telling the world, 'we didn't ask them to help', Dr Simbao is drafting his 'appeal letter'. Someone should tell the poor chap that we are a sovereign nation ;-)
